The program, which is conducted in partnership with the Department of Advanced Education and Skills, is specifically designed to target single parents living on the Burin Peninsula who are on income support or are non-EI eligible and allow them the opportunity to better their lives and that of their children.

It also focuses on increasing their self-confidence and self-esteem while assisting them in securing and maintaining employment.

Program participants undergo seven weeks of in-class training and a two-week intense job search while being fostered by the coordinator and facilitator. Upon completion, they become eligible for a working income supplement that permits them to obtain additional earnings during their employment.

Individuals interested in taking part in the next intake for the program, which takes place in mid-January, can call Andrea Loveless at Smallwood Crescent Community Centre at 279-3643 to further discuss the details.
