‘HMCS Acadia’ is Canada’s largest sea cadet summer training centre.

Upon completion of the course, Ms. Caines will qualify to pass on her skills to younger cadets. One of these procedures includes righting a capsized boat and getting back into it, which is always a favourite with cadets on hot days.

Though she will spend most of her summer on the water in a sailboat, Ms. Caines will also have time to relax, go to the movies, hang out with friends at the cadet canteen and visit attractions like Upper Clements Park over the summer.

HMCS Acadia is one of five Cadet Summer Training Centres in Atlantic Canada. Cadets from across Canada and abroad are at the training centre this summer taking part in music, sailing, seamanship, and fitness and sports programs.

Through participation in the cadet program, young people develop valuable life skills in teamwork, citizenship, leadership and physical fitness while having fun and meeting new friends.

Ms. Caines is a cadet with 290 Royal Canadian Sea Cadet Corps Sir Humphrey Gilbert in Fortune.
