His Honour John C. Crosbie, Lieutenant Governor of Newfoundland and Labrador, a former cadet himself, signed a proclamation designating Sept. 30-Oct. 6 as Cadet Week in the province.

His Honour expressed his pleasure in signing the proclamation for the Cadet Program, recognizing it as a great program for the youth of Newfoundland.

As cadets, young people develop valuable life skills like teamwork, good citizenship, leadership and physical fitness, while meeting new friends and taking part in fun and challenging activities like sailing, exploring the wilderness, learning how to fly or travelling the world on exchanges.

There are 2,576 cadets in Newfoundland and Labrador and 83 Cadet Corps and Squadrons, located in communities across the province.

Cadet Week aims to raise the profile of the Cadet Program in the province, while celebrating the achievements of local cadets and encouraging young people to give the program a try.

Cadet Week activities are taking place across the province this week and get underway in St. John’s Monday morning with the raising of the cadet flag at St. John’s City Hall.
