Advance polling for the 40th general Canadian federal election begins this Friday.
Voters who will not be in their riding, or home community, Tuesday, Oct. 14, can vote at the Advance Polls. Information has been mailed out to Canadian voters detailing polling locations for Oct. 3, 4 and 6 as well as Election Day Oct. 14.
The advance polls are open between noon and 8 p.m. for those who want to vote early. The ballots are kept in a sealed envelope until election day, and are counted at the same time as the other ballots.
Reminder cards alerting electors to contact their local Elections Canada office, if they have not received their voter information card or if the card contains errors, have been mailed.
Canadian electors have also been mailed information on the new voter identification rules, including the Chief Electoral Officer's list of acceptable pieces of identification for electors to prove their identity and address when they vote.
A government photo identification, such as a driver's licence; health card or hydro bill is acceptable. Without proper identification, voters on the voters' list can swear an oath and be vouched for by another person.
Chief Returning Officer for Random-Burin-St. George's is Irene Hodder of Marystown, with her office located in the Shipyard South Annex, phone 1-866-201-2975. Alternate returning officers are situated in Stephenville, Port aux Basques and Clarenville.
