School H1N1 vaccination schedules released

Eastern Health has advised the public of the school vaccination schedule for Grades 7-9 students begins today, Wednesday, Nov. 18. These vaccinations will be done during regular school hours.

Eastern Health has advised the public of the school vaccination schedule for Grades 7-9 students begins today, Wednesday, Nov. 18.

These vaccinations will be done during regular school hours.

If your child is absent from school on the day the vaccines are administered, they will be accommodated at the next possible mass immunization clinic.

Students should not attend mass immunization clinics in advance of their scheduled classroom vaccination day and time.

Eastern Health has also announced the schedule for its Mass Immunization Clinics for Wednesday to Friday, Nov. 18-20.

The authority has also advised the unadjuvanted vaccine will be provided at the Mass Immunization Clinics based on its supply of adjuvanted vaccine at this time.

It should be noted the Public Health Agency of Canada (PHAC) approved the use of the unadjuvanted vaccine in Canada as of Nov. 13. Both the adjuvanted and unadjuvanted vaccines have been shown to provide an excellent immune response for individuals between 10 and 64 years of age.

The full list of individuals eligible for the H1N1 vaccination includes:

• Children six months up to 59 months (up to fifth birthday);

• People five years of age up to but not including age 65 years of age with chronic medical illnesses, including respiratory disease, diabetes, cardiac disease, blood disorders, bowel disease, etc.;

• School-aged children from Kindergarten to Grade 9;

• Pregnant women;

• Parents or other primary care providers (up to two per child) of children under the age of six months and of immune-compromised individuals (up to but not including 65 years of age) who cannot themselves be vaccinated;

• Pre-transplant patients on a wait list and all post-transplant patients (such as organ and stem cell transplant); and,

• Individuals of all ages currently receiving hemodialysis.
