Lions Clubs in Bay L’Argent, English Harbour East, Fortune, Garnish, Grand Bank, Marystown, St. Lawrence and Terrenceville joined in the funding request for the Burin Peninsula Health Care Foundation.

Lions Zone 10 Chairperson Clyde Anstey of Marystown announced the $75,000 grant approval from Lions Club International for the Operating Room (O.R.) Integrated Suites project in Peninsula Health Care Centers.

(Past) Zone Chairperson Lion Bruce Grandy, along with Past District Governors for District N4 Lions Morgan Pardy and Lewis Payne were also present for the announcement.

Mr. Anstey explained “This project was chosen on its merits in that purchasing a more modern technological unit will: help keep pace with progress, introduce new surgical technology to the region, provide patient benefits that require surgical services, assist in retention and attraction of key medical personnel to live and work in our rural region, especially new graduates.

“This is the second major grant Burin Peninsula Lions have received toward their $250,000 commitment; the first being a $25,000 grant from NL Provincial Government in 2011.”

The peninsula Lions Clubs will be meeting in the New Year and will then provide a project status update.

Mr. Anstey thanked all who worked hard to help Lions in attaining their goal of ensuring projects like this one succeed.

Health Care Foundation Chair Jerry Pike congratulated Lions Zone 10 membership for successfully securing this new $75,000 LCIF grant.

“This grant contribution is another great example of what Lions Clubs can do for our community. This health care gift will enhance surgical service delivery in the region for many years to come.

“Burin Peninsula Lions can be extremely proud of the fact that since 2006, Clubs have secured a total of $166,740 for projects like

Direct Digital Radiography (DDR) in 2006 – $91,74 and the O.R. Suites this year – $75,000.”

Mr. Pike said the Health Care Board looks forward to meeting with area Lions in the New Year to discuss and plan a project completion date and ways to acknowledge all project contributors for Phase (1) of the O.R. Upgrades Campaign.
