Rusting culverts on Route 220

There are a number of rusting culverts that are scattered around waterways in the ‘Three Sticks Hill’ area.

Minister Tom Hedderson;

I am writing to advise you of an issue that was recently raised with me by residents in the St. Lawrence area. Specifically, there are a number of rusting culverts that are scattered around waterways in the ‘Three Sticks Hill’ area between the towns of Lawn and St. Lawrence.

This has been the case since repairs were made to the washed road on Route 220 following Hurricane Igor in 2010.

I photographed these rusting culverts earlier this month. You will no doubt agree this situation is an environmental problem and eyesore during the ongoing tourist season.

I ask you to please inquire with your officials about having these rusting culverts removed as soon as is possible.

Thank you for your attention to this concern.

Sincerely,

Dale Kirby, St. John’s North MHA

Cc: Terry French, Minister of Environment and Conservation

George Murphy, NDP Critic for Environment and Conservation

Darin King, Minister of Fisheries and Aquaculture
