Business charged with 7 health and safety violations

McCurdy Ready Mix Ltd. of Gander has been charged with violating the Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulations, according to a news release from Service NL.

Seven charges have been laid in relation to an incident at a quarry east of Benton in July 2014. There were no injuries in the incident, in which the company allegedly failed to ensure rock-crushing equipment was maintained and fitted with guarding, fire extinguishers and dust suppression. Service NL also says the company failed to co-operate with an occupational health and safety officer.

The company will appear in provincial court Sept. 6 in Gander.
