Ship spotters on the harbour front in downtown St. John’s this week may have noticed the presence of the Boa Galatea, an EMGS ship used for the collection of geoscience data.
In May, Nalcor Energy announced EMGS had signed on to collect electromagnetic (EM) data over 13,500 square kilometres offshore Newfoundland and Labrador. It will be used in efforts to encourage more offshore oil and gas exploration in the region. The area will be covered over more than one season, beginning with about 4,000 square kilometres in the Flemish Pass Basin. Final results are expected to be on the market in 2015. —Submitted photo
