Newfoundland and Labrador small business among least polite in Canada: study

Newfoundlanders and Labradorians like to count themselves among the friendliest people in Canada, but a new study shows that small businesses in this province are among the least polite.

The politeness index study conducted by Freshbooks.com, a small business accounting software, searched invoices from small businesses in all 10 provinces and both territories for use of the words please and thank you to determine which provinces are most polite.

It turns out that just six per cent of small businesses in Newfoundland and Labrador used the words, tying the province with the Northwest Territories and Manitoba. Only the Yukon was lower at 4 per cent.

New Brunswick led the way at 15 per cent, followed by Prince Edward Island 12 per cent, and British Columbia at 10 per cent.

Alberta, Ontario, and Quebec — the province with the highest number of small businesses — didn’t crack 10 per cent coming in at 9, 9 and 7 respectively.
