The Placentia Area Chamber of Commerce is spearheading the Placentia Bay Industrial Showcase 2015, a two-day event happening Sept. 23-24 at the Parc Arena and other venues in the local area.
Premier Paul Davis will be a guest speaker at the opening ceremony next Wednesday, which is scheduled to start at 10 a.m. inside Parc Arena.
“From oil to nickel, hydro power to fluorspar, construction to aquaculture and marine transportation, and tourism to the fishery, the Placentia Bay area has a lot going on,” said Chris Newhook, chairman of the event’s planning committee.
“These projects, many of them resource based, are going through various cycles and stages. Our job as a committee this year was to deliver an agenda that continues to enable our local and provincial businesses to be informed so they can be a part of these opportunities as they unfold. And I think we’ve accomplished our goals.”
Other scheduled speakers include Business, Tourism, Culture and Rural Development Minister Darin King, Senator Fabian Manning, former Westray Coal Mine employee Robert Thompson, and representatives from Nalcor Energy, Marine Atlantic, Vale, and the Canada-Newfoundland Labrador Offshore Petroleum Board.
More information about the event can be found at the Placentia Area Chamber of Commerce website.
