GRAND BANK, N.L. - Marystown Mayor Sam Synard has pleaded not guilty to charges of uttering forged documents.

Synard’s attorney entered the plea in provincial court in Grand Bank on Wednesday.

Synard, 57, was arrested and charged on July 8. The RCMP say the charges stem from an investigation that began in October 2016. It is alleged that between Jan. 1, 2015, and Jan. 1, 2016, Synard knowingly use a forged document, an affidavit, as if it were genuine.

Judge Harold Porter set a trial date for Aug.16.
