Store wins holiday video singing contest

BOTWOOD, NL – We’ve all heard the phrase “singing for your supper,” but Botwood area residents have put a new twist on the old saying.
Thanks to support from local communities, the Botwood Foodland won a holiday singing contest, raising more than $5,000 for the area’s food bank.
During the holiday season, Sobeys and Foodland stores sponsored a company-wide singing contest. Videos were produced of staff and customers from each store singing, with a $5,000-prize going to the winning store’s local food bank.
Botwood Foodland invited everyone from Botwood, Northern Arm and Peterview to participate in the video, produced by videographer Dennis Noseworthy.
It was cold in the parking lot on the day of the video, but the area’s dedicated residents came through.
Foodland owner and manager Colleen Dalley and her staff also sold stars during the event, raising $166 for the food bank.
Support for the Botwood video was tremendous. As word spread to friends and relatives to vote on social media, Botwood went to number one and eventually won the contest.
A cheque from head office was presented to Foodland staff and the food bank on Feb. 14. Food bank committee members said the money will be a tremendous help to those who avail of its services in Botwood and surrounding areas.
