Random-Burin-St. George’s MP Judy Foote was appalled by the recent remarks by the Minister of Defence Peter MacKay. Mrs. Foote claimed the remarks brought into question the credibility of the women who have been speaking publicly about the objects they saw in the sky.
It was the worst kept secret in Marystown and the Burin Peninsula over the last several months. Even Mayor Sam Synard suggested he was unaware of the answer to the secret.
But Wednesday morning Sobeys Inc. issued a release, from its head office in Stellarton, N.S., it would open a new grocery store in Marystown this fall.
It wasn’t a bird, plane or Superman. That much is certain. No one seems to know for sure just what three mystery objects were that appeared in the skies over the Burin Peninsula Jan. 25.
The provincial government has reduced its number of planned new ferry constructions to four, from the original five. Auditor-General John Noseworthy Thursday identified this in his annual report on government expenditures and procedures as of Mar. 31, 2009.
The provincial government has approved $286,200 to begin implementation of the Burin Peninsula Waste Management System. The bulk of the funds – $260,800 will be used to upgrade the Fortune-Grand Bank waste disposal site as an interim sub-regional landfill. The remainder – $25,400 will engage BAE-Newplan Consultants to finalize the conceptual design for the regional system.
