ST. JOHN'S, N.L. — Craig Whittle’s two separate bets on Atlantic Lottery’s Pro Line gave him the largest win ever in the game's history.
He won a total of $188,343.75 on two bets involving four NBA games— one placed online and the other at Marie’s Mini Mart on Cornwall Avenue, St. John’s. One bet won slightly more than $81,000 and the other, roughly $107,000. The difference in wins reflects a change in odds in his favour between the time he placed the two bets.
It’s the largest combined win since Pro Line was first offered in 1994, according to Atlantic Lottery, which awarded Whittle the prize today.
Whittle also won $12,641 in 2016.
The longshot picks included upset road victories by Orlando and Philadelphia, both near the bottom of the Eastern Conference standings in the NBA, Atlantic Lottery said.
And Denver beat league-leading Golden State 132-110 on Feb. 13, with staggering odds against them.
“The Denver pick was largely based on Golden State coming off an emotional game against Oklahoma City two nights previously,” Whittle said in a news release. “Many sports bettors refer to such match-ups as a ‘let-down spot.’ The game was highlighted by Kevin Durant squaring off against his former team after leaving for Golden State in the off-season as a free agent.”
Pro Line brand manager Mike Reithmeier said wins of that size are rare, but $26 million has been paid to players in the last year.
