HARBOUR GRACE, NL — The Town of Harbour Grace adopted its municipal budget for 2018 at the regular council meeting Monday night.

Coun. Kathy Tetford, chair of the town’s finance committee, announced a balanced budget of approximately $3,407,000. That’s down slightly from the $3,478,745 budget figure for 2017.

With budget revenue down for 2018, Harbour Grace needed to find ways to trim spending in just about every aspect, according to Tetford. She did indicate spending will be up slightly on playground equipment for 2018.

The town already approved the 2018 tax structure at a council meeting in January. The mill rate for residents was left unchanged at 7.75 per cent. A change was made to how the town handles vendor permits. They will be issued at a cost of $200, the same amount as the minimum business tax.

The town plans to purchase a new backhoe, dump truck and trailer in 2018. The 2018 budget was unanimously adopted.
