Isabella Ryan of the Ice Crystals Figure Skating Club is celebrating a second place finish in the Juvenile under 12 division at the Skate NL Provincial Championships held in Clarenville Feb. 17-19.
Her skate, which was a personal best for Isabella, has earned her a spot in the Atlantic Canada Championships to be held in April.
“I'm very honoured to qualify to represent NL at this event,” said Isabella. “I've been working very hard this year to land my double flip and my jump combinations.”
However, she has chosen not to attend the Atlantic competition because it is the same time as the clubs annual ice show.
“I'm disappointed that I can't make it to Skate Atlantica this year as it's the same weekend as our ice show and test day,” she said. “As much as I'd love to skate in Halifax, I'd rather be here with my home club to perform my group number.
“Also, I've been preparing to do four tests on test day that I don't want to miss out on. Maybe I will qualify again next year.”
Other skaters in the club who competed at the provincial competition include Rihana Murphy who skated in he Star 7 division and Olivia Ryan in the Juvenile under 14 division.
Representatives from the club said all three skaters did a wonderful job.
