Dominoes win regional drama festival


The Marystown Central High School Dominoes were named the overall winners of this year’s Burin Peninsula Regional Drama Festival Saturday.

The Marystown Central High School Dominoes were the winners of this year's Burin Peninsula Regional Drama Festival. The event was held at Christ the King School in Rushoon Apr. 3-5.

With the honour goes the opportunity to represent the region for the upcoming annual provincial competition at the LSPU Hall in St. John’s May 22-25.

The Dominoes, who won for their performance of Bobby Keniston’s ‘Avoiding the Pitfalls of High School Dating’, also picked up a pair of other major festival awards.

Kundai Mkondo was selected for ‘Overall Male Actor’, while Ryan Herridge received the ‘Matthew Symes and Ashley Tulk Award’.

Host troupe Christ the King School Entertainers from Rushoon picked up the ‘Audience Choice Award’ and the ‘Neil Edwards Memorial Award’.

Kathleen Hollett of John Burke High School Masquerade was named 'Overall Female Actor' for the festival. The troupe from Grand Bank also won the Improv Competition.

Other troupes participating at this year's festival included Lawn's Holy Name of Mary Academy Players, the St. Joseph's All Grade Pawformers from Terrenceville, Fortune's Lake Academy Drama Troupe, the Pearce Junior High School Players from Burin and the St. Lawrence Academy Blues Players.
