Nominations are open for the 2018 Newfoundland and Labrador Volunteer Hall of Fame Awards, it was announced today by the Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award Newfoundland and Labrador.
Susan Green, chair of the volunteer hall of fame selection committee, said the spirit of volunteerism is thriving and valued in the province.
“It is a unique bond shared between individuals, organizations and the communities they serve,” Green said.
“We are proud to have recognized so many deserving groups and individuals since 2012 and we are excited to see what tremendous nominees 2018 will bring.”
A news release notes that the Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award Newfoundland and Labrador launched the Volunteer Hall of Fame in 2012 with the goal of honouring, documenting and recognizing the significant efforts of those in our community who have made long-standing volunteer efforts.
Each fall, inductees are honoured at an awards gala celebrating their volunteer achievements. The gala event not only serves to honour some of the province’s most outstanding volunteers, but also raises much needed funds to support The Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award Newfoundland and Labrador in their efforts to grow and nurture the next generation of great volunteers.
The Newfoundland and Labrador Volunteer Hall of Fame will be accepting nominations beginning March 5. Following the close of nominations, a selection committee will review applications and inductees for 2018 will be announced later this spring.
