ST. LAWRENCE, NL – With a lack of gym facilities in the St. Lawrence area, single mom Robyn Leigh has created a solution to the problem with a new online fitness program called Mission: Slimpossible.

The road hasn’t been easy for Leigh. The 30-year-old was diagnosed with depression and anxiety, which left her in a dark place both physically and mentally.

“I was crushed,” Leigh said. “Doctors told me working out and changing my eating habits would help my diagnosis best.”

Leigh decided it was time for a life change. She began working out and eating better, and began to feel results immediately.

“I started to feel better, so I kept doing what I was doing,” she said. “Here I am today in the best shape of my life, both physically and mentally.”

Leigh is currently working on becoming a certified personal trainer and nutritionist through a university based in Ontario.

When she lived in St. John’s, keeping up with her physical fitness and staying healthy wasn’t a problem. But when a failed relationship left her to care for her six-year-old son alone, she decided to move back to St. Lawrence, where there was a lack of gym facilities.

With the closest gym a 40-minute drive away and winter approaching, Leigh found the lack of programs available challenging.

“Living in a rural community, there wasn’t much talk about fitness or being healthy,” Leigh said. “My cousin Amanda Kearney and I came up the idea to start boot camp classes locally.”

The program ran for 12 weeks and drew a huge turnout. Everyone who took part loved the program, she said.

It was such a success in St. Lawrence, Leigh has expanded classes into the Town of Lawn.

The program was originally started five years ago, but has since been reinvented with the addition of Leigh, doing so has allowed one instructor to demonstrate the regular program and the other demonstrates modifications for beginners and people with previous injuries.

Mission Slimpossible offers a weight loss program that includes meal plans, nutrition counselling, and a 24/7 support system. Her classes are also streamed online through a private group for people who would rather work out from home, which has been a great hit with her clients.

Brenda Roy from Kapuskasing, Ontario met Leigh through her Facebook group and has begun online workout sessions with the fitness mom.

“She’s a bubbly, friendly and amazing character,” Roy said. “She lives the life of inspiring others and her passion pushes others to work to their maximum potential.”

Leigh’s new program starts Jan. 21, and already has a long list of people signed up.

“All I want to do is to help anyone I can become the best version of themselves.”
