OTTAWA – Two residents of Newfoundland and Labrador were among the 42 individuals who were presented with the Sovereign’s Medal for Volunteers this morning, April 17, during a ceremony at Rideau Hall in Ottawa.
Barbara Penney of Glovertown has been a Canadian Red Cross volunteer since 1975, while Imelda Earle of Conception Bay South has volunteered with the Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics Canada since 1989.
Gov. Gen. Julie Payette made the presentations.
The Sovereign’s Medal for Volunteers recognizes the exceptional volunteer achievements of Canadians in a wide range of fields.
