The newest Youth Ventures participants this summer are no strangers to business! The members of EvenTide have been an active band for over three years, with two CDs to their credit and an established reputation.

So why would an established business join YV? There are plenty of services it can still offer!

EvenTide will be getting assistance with its marketing for example. This area can be a big expense for businesses.

In case youre unfamiliar with Eventide, its a traditional band that blends old with new. All the band members are between the ages of 17 and 22, and are all Burin Peninsula natives.

Their popularity isnt limited by their ages or location though. Theyve played high profile shows all over the island, including St. Johns, Twilingate, Eastport and Fogo Island.

They will even be heading to Dartmouth, N.S. Aug. 12 to play three shows.

The band is comprised of the brother-sister team Darrell and Vanessa Jackman, along with Michael Rennie and Ryan Baker. Between them they play a smorgasbord of instruments including button accordion, guitar, fiddle, bodrhan, mandolin, tin whistle, bass guitar, harmonica and banjo. They also provide vocals.

The band performs a number of traditional tunes as well as new arrangements and songs written by them, such as the title track of their new CD And the Moon Did Shine, which was written by Darrell Jackman and his girlfriend Erica.

The talent doesnt stop there though, Michael has been playing accordion since he was five-years-old He even released a solo CD at the age of nine.

Michael is also a talented step dancer, and occasionally dances while playing accordion.

Another member, Vanessa, does all the bands artwork in addition to playing bass. She illustrated both their CD covers, Off the Rocks and And The Moon Did Shine. She also runs a summer music camp, in conjunction with band mate Ryan.

Ryan also plays accordion for the band and has quite the collection of this instrument. He just graduated from MCHS and will be pursuing studies at Memorial University, along with Darrell.

But dont worry; EvenTide will continue performing throughout the year.

As you can see, EvenTide is keeping itself busy this summer. Be sure to check out their website at www.eventide-nl.com or pick up a CD. They are available at a variety of stores throughout the province or from the band members.

EvenTide would like to extend a special thank you to all those who supported them over the past year through concert attendance and CD support. The group wishes to acknowledge the help it has received from their family and friends, especially to Band Manager Calvin Jackman, who has assisted the band in the arrangement of all shows and gigs since their beginning.
