Tri Com Thunder
The battle for this province’s bantam hockey supremacy came down to a very tight battle.
Alex Doody deflected a shot just fifteen seconds into the first overtime period to nip the St. John’s Hitmen 5-4 and claim the 2017 Bantam AAA provincial championship game for the Tri Com Thunder Sunday evening.
The Thunder will now represent the province and attend the Atlantic Regional Championship being held in Cornwall, PEI from April 6-9, 2017.
Ethan Moore, Ryan Green, Alex French and Nicholas Moore were the other goal scorers for the Thunder.
Alex Power, Patrick Beer, James Clarke and Abby Newhook responded for the Hitmen, as Newhook forced the game to an extra frame scoring with just four seconds remaining in the third.
Andrew d’Entremont was the winning goaltender, while Jack Benson took the loss.
Five teams competed in a single round robin prior to the championship game over the weekend played at the CBS Arena. The five teams that competed and that featured the top 13 and 14 year old players in the province were the Thunder, Hitmen, Tri-Pen Ice, Central Ice Pak, and Western Kings.
The Bantam AAA program is the second step in the AAA program in the province with players developing and potentially graduating to Major Midget, Junior A, and Major Junior in years to come.
