The Grand Falls-Windsor Cataracts have won the province’s third Allan Cup Canadian senior hockey championship.
The Cataracts defeated defending champion Lacombe, Alta. Generals (formerly Bentley Generals) 7-4 Saturday in Bouctouche, N.B. for the national title, joining the 1986 Corner Brook Royals and 2011 Clarenville Caribous.
Scoring for the Cataracts, who received a shout-out from Don Cherry on Hockey Night in Canada’s Coach’s Corner Saturday night, were Stuart MacRae with three goals and an assist, and Collin Circelli, who registered two goals and a pair of helpers. Matthew Bragg and Matt Stefanishion also scored for Grand Falls-Windsor.
Bryan Gillis stopped 30 of 34 shots.
