LAWN, NL – Students athletes at Lawn’s Holy Name of Mary Academy had a successful fall, capturing four regional and provincial championships.

The boys and girls soccer teams participated in high school provincial tournaments and both came away with provincial titles. On Oct. 13-14 the boys team made the trek to the Codroy Valley, where they went undefeated in the four-team tournament, bringing home the Boys 2A Provincial banner for the fifth year in a row.

The girls hosted three other teams in their tournament in Lawn on the weekend of Oct. 20-21 and also went undefeated in capturing their second consecutive Girls 2A Provincial title.

The following weekend students travelled to Gander and participated in the Varsity Cross Country Provincial Championships. The five-person junior girls team ran an inspired race, posting the lowest team time and bringing home the Junior Girls Provincial banner.

The boys volleyball team captured the Regional A banner and then travelled to English Harbour West over the Dec. 1-2 weekend, where they made it to the provincial semi-finals for the first time in the school’s history.

Finally, the boys travelled to Baie Verte to participate in a provincial indoor soccer tournament on Dec. 8-9. The boys went undefeated in the seven-team tournament capturing the AAA Indoor Provincial title for the second time in three years.

In order for students to participate in all of these activities and have an opportunity to achieve success, a strong, supportive network is required. Consequently, the school would like to acknowledge and show appreciation to parents, coaches/mentors and the entire school community for their continued and unwavering assistance throughout the school year.
