League-leading scorer Jake Warren had two goals and Thomas Pieroway posted the shutout as Holy Cross blanked the Gerry O’Brien Financial Canada Games team 3-0 at King George V Park Sunday. Michael Dunne also scored for the Crusaders, who have won four of their last five games after starting the season with two losses and three ties
Sunday’s victory doesn’t put Holy Cross into a top-four placing and a playoff position, but the Red and Gold are just two points behind the Mount Pearl First Choice Haircutters and the C.B.S. That Pro Look Strikers, tied for third place. What’s more, Holy Cross has two games in hand on both those teams.
Mount Pearl also played Sunday, downing second-place Feildians 5-2 at King George V.
Mark Reddy scored twice for the winners, with Tyler Forsey, Scott Woodfine and Ronaldo Morris, with his third goal in as many games, also producing markers for Mount Pearl.
Kevin Connolly and Michael Dawe replied for Feildians.
It was one of two triumphs on the weekend for Mount Pearl, which edged the Strikers 3-2 at Topsail on Saturday.
Forsey, Morris and Ryan Thistle had the winners’ goals in that one, while Siraj Alfarek tallied twice for C.B.S.
The league-leading St. Lawrence Labatt Laurentians and last-place Corner Brook Steers Insurance United were both idle on the weekend.
