The National Ballet School is holding open classes and audition in St. John's this weekend.

Ballet dancers and those interested in the art form in this province will have a chance to audition for the National Ballet School (NBS) when the institution brings its Canadian audition tour to the Arts and Culture Centre in St. John’s this weekend.

The tour consists of auditions for the school’s full-time professional ballet program — open to students in Grade 6 to 12 — and tryouts for the post-secondary program, which is open to high school graduates.

Auditions are set for Sunday between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. The minimum age to audition if 10 and no prior ballet training is required for students aged 12 and under.

Prior to the auditions, NBS is also offering a series of open classes on Saturday between 9 a.m. and 6:30 p.m. The classes, open to junior and senior level dancers, are designed for students to attend regardless of their intent to audition for the full-time program.

More details are available on the school’s website.
