American actor Jonathan Majors, known for playing Kong in the Marvel movies, is being sued by his ex-girlfriend.

British choreographer Grace Jabbari filed a civil lawsuit Tuesday in New York federal court.

He alleges battery, assault, intentional infliction of emotional distress, malicious prosecution and defamation.

A jury found Majors guilty three months later of assaulting and harassing Ms Jabbari.

He faces up to a year in prison when he is sentenced in April.

Further allegations were made in court documents filed on Tuesday, in which Ms Jabbari said Majors subjected her to “a pattern of widespread domestic abuse beginning in 2021 and extending into 2023”.

The documents describe several violent interactions and “verbal attacks and frightening anger.”

The lawsuit also alleges that in September 2022, Majors assaulted Ms. Jabbari and caused “severe injuries to her body.”

“Soon, Grace exposed physical abuse to a member of Jonathan's management team. Majors was outraged when he learned that Grace had abused him in an attempt to get him help,” it said.

Lawyer Priya Chowdhury, acting on behalf of the Majors, said the suit was “not a surprise” and that the Majors were “preparing a counterclaim against Ms Jappari”.

Ms Zappery's lawyer, Brittany Henderson, praised the British actress in a statement, saying it “takes real courage to hold someone with this level of authority and accountability.”

After Majors' criminal conviction in December, a Marvel spokesperson said the studio would no longer work with the actor.

In an interview in January, he said he was “shocked” by the jury's verdict.

“How is that possible based on the evidence, the prosecution's evidence, let alone our evidence?” he told ABC News.

Majors played the villain Kong the Conqueror in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania and the Disney+ series Loki, and was slated to play a major role in the planned Avengers: The Kong Dynasty.
