365 Sports Inc. had its smallest event of the season and came up $100,000 short of its break-even point by bringing Foam Fest to Marble Mountain this past weekend.
Despite coming up short of the 4,000 runners needed to make the venture viable, 365 Sports Inc. founder and president Jesse Fulton is committed to bringing the foamy fun event back to Marble for Sept. 14, 2019.
More than 2,000 people enjoyed a sunny and hot day walking and running through the 22 obstacles on the course with foam flying around everywhere, but there were close to 2,400 runners who registered for the event and 365 Sports Inc. usually tackles putting off events that draw crowds in the 5,000-6,000 range.
“We were on the fence as usually we get numbers that size we automatically just move it to another location, but I think Newfoundland’s got legs and we can turn this into a fun annual thing if we get the numbers,” Fulton said Tuesday afternoon.
Fulton had high praise for the great working relationship that was formed with representatives at Marble Mountain and he believes people at Marble and the community itself certainly benefitted from having an event that brought out a fairly large crowd to watch.
He wants to work with tourism stakeholders and officials at Marble to find a way to make it better for all hands. He said events planned by 365 Sports Inc. are for charitable causes, but his company has to be able to cover its costs of bringing the event to the island.
“Obviously, these events have a massive economic impact on the area,” he said. “if everybody is winning we need to as well so we got to work with the community and see how we can mitigate our overhead and get to that point where it makes sense from a business standpoint.”
