The calendar says it is summer (despite what the weather thinks!) and that means lots of fun things are on the go at your local Newfoundland and Labrador Public Library!

We are in full swing with our TD Summer Reading Club, a nationwide initiative to get kids reading in the summertime and to avoid the summer slide, when children lose their learning momentum in the summer. The library is an excellent resource to keep kids reading and engaged with learning! This summer we are fuelling kids’ passions with programs, books, and stickers at all of our branches, so be sure to pop by or check us out online for more information and for lots of fun!

And speaking of fun, library fun is not just for kids! We have lots of programs for adults, too, which are opportunities to learn new skills, hear experts speak, play board games, or to try your hand at something creative! For a full listing of our programs across the province, check us out online at nlpl.ca, follow us on Twitter at the handle @NLPubLibraries, or like us on Facebook where many of our branches have their own pages.

We are currently welcoming a number of new releases like "Black Panther", "Murder on the Orient Express", "Ferdinand", and "Coco" and many more blockbusters to our growing movie collection, so be sure to check our online catalogue to request your copy today.

For those nights that are cool or perfect for some indoor time, borrow one of our many DVDs for a movie night in! We are currently welcoming a number of new releases like "Black Panther", "Murder on the Orient Express", "Ferdinand", and "Coco" and many more blockbusters to our growing movie collection, so be sure to check our online catalogue to request your copy today or pop in to our branches and take a peek at what we have on our shelves!

Many people like to make the summer their reading time. Library branches across the province will have new books coming in soon and they love hosting interesting displays of books that should be read! Some of our favourite displays for July will include Canadian books and authors, books about Pride, books turned into movies, tearjerkers, and summertime favourites!

The summertime is a great time to be on the trails for long walks, lounging at the campsite on a comfy chair, or to take long road-trips. Don’t forget to take the library with you with our audiobook or online eBook collections so that you can listen to your favourite authors or bestsellers no matter where you are! Tune in, turn on, and read while doing everything you love best in (hopefully!) the nice weather!

If you happen to be in the St. John’s area, please come and visit us at the Farmer’s Market! Our wonderful Friends of the Library will be there at a table with library information, swag, and books for sale! Saturdays our library staff will be on-hand with storytime for families with little ones. Come by and sing, rhyme, play and read with us. We hope to see you there!

While you are setup to listen to some great books, don’t forget to check out our library podcast and live radio show, Beyond Books: The St. John’s Libraries Podcast! Every two weeks we talk about fun programs that are happening, some great services available provincially, and we always end with book recommendations! You can find us on your local podcast provider or listen in bi-weekly on Mondays at 4pm on CHMR.
