MARYSTOWN, NL – Marystown council met Oct. 10. The following is a synopsis of the meeting.
Changes in the chamber
Gary Myles will be Marystown’s next deputy mayor. Myles was nominated by Coun. Nora Tremblett during the Oct.10 meeting. He was the only nominee. Council voted unanimously to make Myles the town’s new deputy mayor.
Planning and development director Alje Mitchell has been named acting chief administrative officer, taking over for former acting CAO Mike Walsh, who is off for undisclosed reasons.
Council approved a motion to make administrative assistant Petrina Power the new town clerk.
Council voted in favour of naming the following members to chair various committees within council:
Planning and Development - chair Mike Brennan, co-chair Nora Tremblett.
Finance - chair Andy Edwards, co-chair Loretta Lewis.
Public Works - chair Keith Keating, co-chair Gary Myles.
Protections to Persons and Property - chair Nora Tremblett, co-chair Mike Brennan.
Recreation - chair Loretta Lewis, co-chair Andy Edwards.
Tourism and Special Events- chair Gary Myles, co-chair Keith Keating.
Couns. Andy Edwards and Keith Keating have been named representatives for the Town of Marystown on the Burin Peninsula Region Waste Management Committee. Coun. Loretta Lewis was named as an alternate.
Council approved a motion to have the acting CAO issue key cards and a copy of the passcode so that e-mail accounts can be set up for new members of council, as well as iPhones, iPads, and Dropbox accounts.
Additions to agenda
Coun. Keith Keating asked that council look into reinstating the $80 annual deduction to property taxes for seniors 65 years or older.
