Fire causes extensive damage to home in Paradise Sunday night

Cat rescued

Fire caused extensive damage to a home in Paradise late Sunday night.

St. John’s Regional fire department firefighters arrived on scene just before 11:30 p.m. to find heavy smoke and flames coming from the home and quickly laid attack lines to fight the blaze. They knocked the fire down outside before entering and battling the flames in the upstairs section of the home.

Heavy smoke blanketed the neighborhood so thickly that the Telegram’s photographer arriving on scene had to stop in the middle of a nearby road until it cleared enough to navigate the street.

Firefighters also rescued a cat from the basement of the house and returned it to the anxious owner.

The rear of the home was also heavily damaged. The homeowners were home at the time but there were no injuries. The RNC is investigating the incident.
