Storm closes schools, businesses on Burin Peninsula

It’s a stormy day on the Burin Peninsula but the snowfall was not as much as predicted.

Blizzard conditions closed schools and businesses on the Burin Peninsula Tuesday.

School are closed for the day throughout the region and many businesses also delayed opening.

Eastern Health delayed the opening of the Placentia West Medical Clinic and Marystown Community Services this morning. Both facilities resumed operations at noon.

According to Environment Canada, the Burin Peninsula will see rain or drizzle mixed with snow later today. The wind will ease off to 30 kilometres an hour with gusts up to 50. There is a risk of freezing rain early in the afternoon.

Snow mixed with rain will end this evening. Snow or freezing rain will begin overnight.
