BAY ROBERTS, N.L. —

During the early morning hours of Saturday, Feb. 23, Bay Roberts RCMP were on patrol in Cupids and attempted to stop a vehicle for a speeding infraction.

The driver refused to stop and fled from police. Given the risk it could pose to the public, the officer did not pursue the vehicle.

Shortly thereafter, police received several reports stating the vehicle that fled from the police had lost control, crashed into a residence causing significant damage and had left the scene.

RCMP located the suspect vehicle and the driver, a 35-year-old woman, from Bareneed, was arrested and later released.

Police learned the reason the woman fled the initial traffic stop was because she did not have a valid insurance policy. Her vehicle was seized and impounded and she was charged under the Highway Traffic Act for having no insurance.

She also faces criminal charges including flight from police, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle and leaving the scene of an accident. There were no injuries during this incident.

The accused is set to attend court on April 17.
