GRAND FALLS-WINDSOR, NL – Police had a busy Valentine’s Day night in the central Newfoundland community, with calls for service resulting in three arrests and several assault charges.
The first incident, according to a release from the Grand Falls-Windsor RCMP, was reported at about 6:20 p.m. from an apartment building off Lincoln Road. Police allege that two male roommates had gotten into an argument over money, that one picked up a knife and told the other to leave, and a struggle ensued. Both men were treated for deep cuts on their hands and both were arrested.
A 24-year-old man is facing charges of both common assault and assault with a weapon, and an 18-year-old man is facing charges of assault with a weapon. They are set to appear in court in May.
The second incident of the night was called in from an apartment building off Harris Avenue at about 10 p.m. A male called to report that his sister has been assaulted by another woman with what he thought was a baseball bat. The release from the police states the investigation determined the alleged victim had gone to ask a neighbour to keep it down, but after knocking on the door for some time, a woman opened it and came out swinging what appeared to be a baseball bat. The alleged victim reported having been struck in the head several times and chased down the hall.
Police obtained a warrant to enter the premises, arrested the woman and seized the weapon, the release stated.
A 55-year-old Grand Falls-Windsor woman was set to appear in court the following day in relation to this matter.
