SALMON COVE, N.L.
Harbour Grace RCMP happened to be in the right place at the right time while responding to a call for one of their own involved in a single-vehicle accident.
According to a news release issued Friday, Feb. 1, a patrol vehicle went off the road in Salmon Cove just before midnight Jan. 31. Snow squalls and reduced visibility were contributing factors to the single-vehicle accident.
After another police vehicle arrived to check on that situation, a truck went off the road. The driver, a 35-year-old man from Western Bay, was not injured. However, police determined he was impaired.
The man was taken into custody and charged with impaired operation of a motor vehicle and refusal to provide breath samples. He was released the next morning and is scheduled to appear in court April 17.
As for the people in the initial police vehicle, all three were sent to hospital. Two officers were treated for minor injuries and released, while a woman who was being transported by police received no injuries.
