NFL 2023 playoff picture, standings after Week 17: Cowboys control NFC East; Ravens, 49ers win top seeds

One more week to go in NFL During the regular season, the playoff races are as wild and chaotic as ever. The AFC and NFC each have 12 teams still mathematically alive in Week 17. Entering Week 18, the AFC still has three playoff berths up for grabs. The AFC East-title showdown between the Bills and Dolphins highlights the action. In the NFC, six teams are fighting for the final two spots.

Below, the tiebreakers for each team will be explained. A breakdown of the current standings and what each contender is up against.

What to know: The Jaguars are still 4th in the AFC and still in first place in the AFC South. The Jaguars hold the head-to-head tiebreaker for the division lead over the Texans and Colts.

What to know: The Browns are ranked No. 5 in the AFC, and the Ravens won't be able to advance any higher by clinching the division.

Buffalo Bills

What to know: The Bills are 6th in wins over the Patriots. They will play the Dolphins next week for the AFC East title

Indianapolis Colts

What to know: After the win over the Raiders, the Colts are currently No. 7 in the AFC, holding a head-to-head tiebreaker over the Texans (No. 8) and Steelers (No. 9). Indianapolis and Houston will play next week to keep the season alive, as a Colts win would clinch a playoff spot.

What to know: Houston is currently ranked No. 8 and sits out of the playoffs after a win over Tennessee and a tiebreaker against Indianapolis for No. Dropped to 7th place. The Texans hold the head-to-head tiebreaker over the Steelers, and a win would keep their postseason chances alive.
