Newfoundland and Labrador Soccer Hall of Famer Roland “Junior” Doyle of St. Lawrence passed away recently. He was 65.
Doyle helped the St. Lawrence Laurentians win the Burin Peninsula, provincial Challenge Cup and Atlantic soccer championships. He was also part of the St. Lawrence team which won silver medals at the Eastern Canadian and national Challenge Cup competitions, as well as two gold medals at the Eastern Canadian masters championships.
In addition to the provincial soccer Hall, Doyle was a member of the Burin Peninsula Soccer Hall of Fame and a member of the St. Lawrence team which was named NLSA Team of the Decade for the 1970s.He later helped C.B.S. win two second division provincial titles in the 1980s.
